Prints charming! London designer Mary Katrantzou’s bold, technicolor pieces reign supreme. She’s known for her statement-making patterns, which are all constructed through digital technology. “I love designing for strong women who carry themselves with grace and confidence,” Katrantzou tells Us, “I hope that they are attracted to the uniqueness of the pieces and the creativity that goes into each collection.”
While countless celebs — from Lady Gaga to Lupita Nyong’o — have worn the brand, the designer admits that the gown Cate Blanchett wore to 71st Annual Cannes Film Festival was a favorite. “Her dress was in the making for six months from concept to completion, it was designed for her and she was part of the design process from the beginning,” Katrantzou says. “Meeting her in person made me love and respect her even more,” she enthuses. Seeing her wear the creation, she adds, “was one of the moments I will always cherish.”
