This Morning went all out to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, but a segment with a leprechaun expert became totally chaotic after he told off hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary before swearing live on air.
On Friday, the programme celebrated the national holiday, which included inviting a Guinness expert to explain how the drink should best be served, showing viewers some of the celebrations unfolding in Galway, and making some traditional dishes.
However, while a light-hearted chat with leprechaun whisperer Kevin Woods, who appeared on the show back in 2019, was on the cards the interview seemed to be in total shambles at times.
Before it even began, Kevin appeared to have totally zoned out, with the trio laughing it off.
From that point, things only got more stranger, and even more hilarious.
Explaining to the hosts that there were 236 leprechauns left in the world, Kevin scolded the two and said they needed to ‘take me seriously’, before he started laughing himself.
‘I live in the land of myths and legends and little people,’ he said.
After saying he used to be a non-believer, Kevin recalled his first experience with the creature, before teasing that he had one in a bag he was keeping a tight grip on.
It took a few minutes for Kevin to actually open the bag, and only after he made Dermot and Alison get on their knees and put their hand around a coffee table to ensure the leprechaun couldn’t leap away.
Making sure to check if she might be bitten, Alison was told she was in for ‘great fun’.
But when double checking just how many were left out there, she was told off.
‘There’s not very many left are there?’ she asked.
Kevin replied: ‘I told you a minute ago. You’re not listening.’
At this point everything fell apart as the laughter started.
‘You were exactly the same in Ireland now, and then you turn up in your pyjamas,’ he said, also making it clear he wasn’t a fan of Alison’s outfit for the day.
After Alison joked Kevin was ‘milking this’ ahead of the reveal, it finally came, but the leprechaun was nowhere to be seen.
In his place was a little outfit, hat and boots, as well as a piece of gold.
‘Oh for God’s sake. The wee f***er [is gone],’ Kevin exclaimed.
‘He did that yesterday and he’s done it again.’
At this point viewers were calling the segment some of the best TV they’d ever seen.
‘I’m literally crying watching this,’ one person posted on Twitter.
However, Alison had to then offer an apology for the colourful language.
‘Thank you so much for coming Kevin, but we just have to say, apologies if there was any bad language,’ she said.
However, Kevin was insistent he had been on his best behaviour and hadn’t dropped any bad words.
As the segment came to a close Kevin yelled out that he spotted his small friend running across the studio and needed to chase him down.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
