Samsung Issues Company-Wide Ban on ChatGPT and Google Bard

Just the other day, the “Godfather of AI,” scientist Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, left his long-held position at Google over fears of the “scary” rapid advancements of the technology. Dr. Hinton isn’t alone in his thinking, with more people in the science and tech communities, as well as the general public, expressing their concerns.

Samsung has now joined the ranks of AI critics. The South Korean tech company has issued a ban on employees using generative AI, such as ChatGPT and Google Bard.

The reason behind Samsung’s ban is a bit different than those who are fearful of AI’s capabilities. Samsung engineers uploaded sensitive code and meeting notes to ChatGPT, essentially leaking it, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Samsung is fearful that the code, which is stored on external servers, will now be spread to other chatbot users. Detailed in a memo sent out to staff, the AI ban applies to all company-owned computers, tablets and phones, as well as internal servers, Bloomberg reported.
