The studio behind Concrete Genie will soon be shut down, with the fate of its new PS5 game left unclear.
In a sudden and unexpected social media post over the weekend, Concrete Genie developer PixelOpus announced that it will be shutting down.
The studio was in the process of its next, untitled project, but all it ever said about it was that it would be a PlayStation 5 exclusive and a collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation.
It’s unclear whether the studio’s closure means the project will be passed onto another team or if it’s being scrapped entirely.
‘Dear friends, our PixelOpus adventure has come to an end,’ reads the announcement.
‘As we look to new futures, we wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to the millions of passionate players who have supported us, and our mission to make beautiful, imaginative games with heart.’
The news has been met with condolences from fans of PixelOpus’ work on Concrete Genie and Entwined, including former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden.
‘This is a deep cut,’ he tweets. ‘So loved working with this team and watching them level up to deliver the genre busting, Concrete Genie, all while maintaining a culture of support, inclusion, challenge.’
