Normal People star Paul Mescal may have just landed his first ever Emmy Awards nomination, but he’s not gonna let the hugely exciting news go to his head.
Oh, no. Instead Paul was seen marking the occasion by digging out his trusty O’Neills short shorts and heading out on a sweaty run around London.
The Irish actor, 24, was spotted working up a sweat in the sunshine on Thursday, while rocking his headphones, a black Adidas t-shirt and the vintage sportswear that he has single-handedly brought back into fashion.
Paul became a household name when BBC Three series Normal People dropped back in April, thanks to fans falling for his character Connell and his coming-of-age romance with Marianne (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones).
Onscreen Connell was seen wearing similar short shorts while playing Gaelic football on and since the show Paul has become something of a fashion icon, after being spotted in a similar style of shorts from sports brand O’Neills.
The two now go hand in hand, with fans convinced that Gucci took inspiration from Paul, after the designer brand unveiled a new pair of swim shorts that looked very familiar.
When one Twitter user joked that they hoped Gucci would be sending Paul a pair, he replied: ‘I certainly wouldn’t say no.’
But, when he’s not busy making every guy out there want to snap up a pair of short shorts himself, Paul is making waves in the TV industry.
He was listed in the nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards – landing a nod for his role as Connell in Normal People in the category for lead actor in a limited series or movie.
