NAMESAKE FW23 Takes the Sporting Spirit to the Y2K Aesthetic

NAMESAKE proves once again that basketball is in their DNA. This Fall/Winter 2023 season, the athletic-focused label presented its collection during Paris Fashion Week, continuously exploring traditional weaving techniques with upholstered fabrics for winter outerwear. Overcoming trauma he endured at a fraudulent Buddhist camp at the age of seven, Creative Director Steve Hsieh reflects on the horrors and the lessons learned. Through his experience, he understands that to find happiness, one must overcome the hurdles of grief. The collection acts as the foundation of the collection.

All about breaking barriers and surpassing objectives, the collection is created with tenacity. Continuing to expand on their ethics of sports, the collection takes inspiration from the famous Kobe Bryant‘s Mamba mentality, trusting the process with “relentlessness, resiliency, fearlessness, passion, and obsession.” Ensuring that all the pieces were versatile, Hsieh wants to highlight the flexibility of the collection.

Semi-sheer fabrications are translated into winter gear, while uphostered fabrics featuring embroidered plaids paired with a wide range of hues, create the shifting colors at every angle. Shirts can be worn traditionally or as dresses, while pants can also be worn as tops. NAMESAKE is redefining a new context and narrative of the staple closet pieces, emphasizing bright palettes for all its pieces.

This season saw the streetwear label enter into the realm of bags and headwear. Staying true to their basketball roots, jersey-bags and the paneled hats are designed to blend the youthful love for the game with classic detailing. Take a look at the collection above.
