Kim Jones Named 2021 Fashion Innovator of the Year by 'Wall Street Journal'

Kim Jones has been a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world, continuously building his portfolio since his artistic director appointment for Dior Men in 2018 and Fendi‘s womenswear and haute couture in 2020. Prior to Dior, he grew his reputation as Louis Vuitton menswear’s creative director for seven years.

While Jones has maintained a global presence in the world of luxury fashion working under French conglomerate LVMH, he has truly established himself as one of the greatest collaborators in the industry. With Dior Men’s alone, Jones has initiated collections in tandem with multiple names including Kenny Scharf, Peter Doig, Amoako Boafo, sacai and rapper Travis Scott. Recently, he also partnered with Italian luxury house Versace for the latest FENDACE collection showcased as a crossover capsule that combined the creativity of Silvia Venturini Fendi and Donatella Versace. Kim Jones also orchestrated a collaboration between Fendi and Kim Kardashian West’s SKIMS brand, calling it an “interesting” project that is “totally unexpected but makes sense.” When discussing his collaborations, Jones said,

“All the designers I know who collaborate are very un-insecure…When they see something they love, they work with the person, they don’t just take elements of it. Collaboration is a really good way to work because it keeps you constantly inspired.”

In an interview with Tim Blanks for the Wall Street Journal, Blanks aptly notes that Jones has changed the face of luxury fashion and taken the industry “beyond an exclusive club.” The Wall Street Journal has officially crowned Kim Jones as its Fashion Innovator of the year, alongside Kim Kardashian West who receives the award for Brand Innovator of the year. Kim Jones talks to Blanks about what inspires him the most sharing,

“One of the joys of getting older is you don’t care about those things so much. Each time you do a collection it gets better or it sells more or people want it more, and that’s my answer to what really matters. I know that people are buying [my designs]. And they’re the people I care about the most.”
