Julian Sands' cause of death determined after actor went missing aged 65

Julian Sands’ cause of death has been deemed ‘undetermined’ after he died aged 65.

The A Room With A View actor went missing in January, failing to return home after hiking in California’s San Gabriel Mountains.

He was missing for five weeks before and, despite the best efforts of his family and responders, was unable to be found alive.

At the end of June, human remains were found close to the area, which police later identified as the actor, who was a keen and experienced hiker.

An announcement read at the time: ‘The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood.

‘The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results.

‘We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands.’

A public information officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has now issued an update.

Speaking to People, their statement marked the final cause of death on the British star’s death certificate.

The officer clarified that his cause of death was ruled ‘undetermined due to the condition of the body.’

They said that ‘this is common when dealing with cases of this type.’

Following the tragic news of Sands’ death, his family released a heartfelt statement.

His loved ones said: ‘We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.

‘We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.’

Sands, who was born, raised, and began acting in England, worked constantly in film and television, amassing more than 150 credits in a 40-year career.
