Hublot has produced a 100-piece limited edition Unico chronograph which will help fund Care for Wild, the world’s largest rhino orphanage and sanctuary.
Poaching, which has wiped out two thirds of the rhino population in South Africa’s Kruger Park in the past ten years, had slowly started to decline until 2020, when the pandemic saw borders close and vital funding from tourism dry up. Now there are thought to be fewer than 500 black rhinos remaining in the park.
Care For Wild is supported by Save Our Rhino Africa India (SORAI), a charity founded by Hublot ambassador and former England Cricket Captain, Kevin Pietersen.
While the first Hublot Big Bang Unico SORAI from 2019 reflected the beige tones of the South African bush in winter, this second piece blends two shades of green for its 45mm matte ceramic case and both rubber camouflage and fabric straps presented with the watch. In case you were in any doubt as to the motivation behind the watch, an appliqué rhino can be seen at the 9 o’clock position of the skeleton dial and the sapphire crystal caseback is emblazoned with the SORAI logo.
The flyback chronograph features a Hublot MHUB1242 Unico automatic 4Hz movement featuring a column wheel and 72-hour power reserve.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico SORAI is available now via Hublot as an online exclusive, limited to 100 pieces and priced $24,100 USD.
