HBO has officially unveiled the first official images of its Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon.
House of the Dragon is set a few centuries prior to the events of Game of Thrones and highlights the events of House Targaryen, telling the story the family during the Targaryen civil war. The war, known as the “Dance of the Dragons” sees the cast including Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno and Fabien Frankel take on key roles of the storyline.
HBO has given House of the Dragon a 10-episode order, expected to be released for a 2022 debut. Just last month, the start of the production was announced on Twitter with a set of photos showcasing the official table read. George R.R. Martin also recently signed a five-year overall deal to create content for both HBO and HBO Max.
The photos released feature D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in conversation with Smith who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen. Audiences can also catch a glimpse of Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon and Cooke as Alicent Hightower and Ifans as Otto Hightower.
In other entertainment news, Warner Bros. and DC have reportedly “committed” to hiring a black director for the black Superman film reboot.
