It’s Christmas time and we’re expecting Santa to land on our Christmas roof… not a raccoon with a trapped leg.
This was the bizarre situation for one family as the dad struggled to free the hapless raccoon.
Meanwhile his daughter anxiously watched and recorded the whole sorry affair.
In scenes that would melt the hardest of hearts, the man and his friend worked tirelessly for several minutes with planks of wood to prise the gap open and release the trapped leg.
Emergency animal services had failed to arrive and were quoting as much as $200 to free the animal.
The family decided to work on their own emergency mission and were successful.
‘A raccoon got overnight on the roof of our shed – we called four different animal shelters and rescues,’ said Noor Fadel, who filmed her dad, Mohammed, carrying out the rescue.
‘One claimed they couldn’t help due to not being funded by the government. The other number was out of service and one was trying to charge my family more than $200.’
Raccoons are prone to getting into tricky spots, as they have a very curious nature and investigate environments that are unknown. The main appeal is food which can lead to entrapment.
