Epic Games has provided a full rundown of what to find in the new Fortnite season, from its futuristic setting to its new weapons.
By the time you read this, Chapter 4 season 2 of Fortnite, dubbed Fortnite Mega, will have gone live with a surprisingly muted start; at least compared to previous seasons.
Epic Games shared a bunch of official information (some of which had already leaked) to prepare players for the new season and yet there was no mention of a transitional live event.
The servers just went down last night, with a cinematic trailer showing the new futuristic city setting falling out of rifts in the sky, serving as an explanation for the changes to the map. But that was it.
Regardless, Fortnite Mega is poised to be another exciting season for players since it introduces a new rail grinding mechanic, allowing you to speed throughout the city while still firing your weapons at opponents.
The trailers also provide a first proper look at the Eren Yeager skin from the Attack On Titan anime. Not only does he wield his twin blades, but he can also use his ODM gear to grapple and swing around the map similar to Spider-Man and can bound off enemies while attacking them.
Hopefully, this will become an ability you can use regardless of what skin you have, although Eren won’t become available to unlock until later in the season pass, so we won’t know till then.
Other new content includes a few new guns and a kinetic blade, a special kind of katana that lets you home in and dash towards enemies, and a slick looking motorbike and car to race around the city streets in.
A few older weapons have also been brought back from the Fortnite vault, though the official website mentions that several vehicles such as motorboats and dirt bikes have taken their place, meaning they’re no longer available in the current season.
Slurp juice has been kept from the previous season and has been upgraded to quickly restore your health and shield at the same time, and there are seven new reality augments to find.
Examples include Treasure Hunter, which marks treasure chests on your map the first time you arrive at a POI and Slap Surplus, which makes every chest you open contain slurp juice.
One important detail PC players need to be aware of is that they’ll need to have upgraded to Windows 10 to run Fortnite. As of this season, you can no longer access the game on Windows 7 or 8.
If you can’t or won’t upgrade, your only alternative is to stream the game through Nvidia’s GeForce Now service.
Fortnite is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
