Converse Brews Its Jack Purcell With a Matcha-Inspired Makeover

Collaborations have been the main focus for Converse in recent memory as it has pushed out projects with the likes of UNDEFEATED, thisisneverthat and Rick Owens DRKSHDW. However, it’s swiveling our attention back to its GR lineup to unveil one of its latest exclusive offerings: the Converse Jack Purcell “Matcha” colorway.

You can probably guess by its namesake that that this forthcoming iteration is inspired by matcha powder — an ingredient that is often found in delectable Japanese desserts and teas. To best translate the look and feel of it, Converse cooks up the uppers of the lifestyle silhouette with recycled wool green uppers. The rubber toe cap — which is signature to this model — is styled with white paneling towards the front and a matcha-inspired section green closer to the throat. The shoes come factory-laced with white shoe strings, but they also come packaged with a second set of brown laces to mimic the bean paste and chocolate items that matcha is often served with. Midsoles round out the kicks with an eggshell exterior and come marked by Jack Purcell bumper stickers.

If interested, retailers like BILLY’s Tokyo has opened up the pre-order for these through November 21 and they are priced at ¥ 11,000 (approx. $96 USD)
