Chris Rock has warned that arresting former President Donald Trump will only make him ‘more popular’.
The comedian, 58, spoke at the Mark Twain Prize at the Kennedy Centre, taking aim at Trump, 76, who claims he will be arrested on Tuesday.
Speaking at the awards, which saw Adam Sandler honoured with the American comedy award, Rock went for the former President, as well as the crowd in attendance.
‘Are you guys really going to arrest Trump?,’ he asked the crowd, which included several officials in the Biden administration as well as the 52nd speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
‘Do you know this is only going to make him more popular? It’s like arresting Tupac. He’s just gonna sell more records. Are you stupid?’ he continued.
The comic also joked it was ‘romantic’ of Trump to pay off porn star Stormy Daniels so his wife, Melania Trump, wouldn’t find out he cheated on her.
‘We’ve all been cheated on. Don’t you wish that the person that cheated on you paid off somebody so you wouldn’t find out?’ he said.
Rock also took a hit at President Joe Biden, joking the 80-year-old came back from the dead to be president.
‘Trump was so bad as a President, he was so bad that Joe Biden had to burst off a monument. Biden was dead for 16 years,’ he said, to laughter from the crowd.
It comes after adult film star Daniels spoke to prosecutors investigating Trump’s role in hush payments made to her.
