Loose Women panellist Stacey Solomon, 31, said she had “to be sensible” and think of her sons when she was asked about potentially marrying Joe Swash, 39, in an unearthed interview. The couple got engaged in December last year and share son Rex, who turns two in May, together.
Stacey also has sons Zachary and Leighton from previous relationships.
On the topic of marriage, the former X Factor star said: “I don’t want anyone to have the ability to take half of everything I’ve worked hard for.
“I’ve set aside money for my children to make sure they’ve got a roof over their head, and I still have to work really hard to carry on making that happened for however long I’ve got left on my mortgage.
“I wouldn’t ever want to be in a position where that could be taken from them, so I have to be sensible,” she added in an interview with The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine.
The pair got together in 2016 after meeting on ITV2’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Now! in 2015.
Joe asked Stacey out on a date when they arrived back home to the UK but she admitted she didn’t think things would go further.
She said: “I just thought, ‘This is nice but I’ll probably never see him again’.
“But it turns out he’s quite persistent!”
The couple later moved in together and welcomed their first son together Rex in 2019.
Joe also has 13-year-old son Harry from a previous relationship.
On Christmas Eve last year, Joe got down on one knee at their local woods in Essex and popped the question to Stacey.
The Loose Women star flashed her ring as she announced her happy news on Instagram that evening.
She recently revealed the pair are hoping to get married this summer, even if restrictions are in place.
In a recent Instagram Q&A, Stacey said she was unsure whether she will take Joe’s surname.
Stacey explained: “It sounds so weird. But I’ve been Stacey Solomon for so long, for like 31 years.”
“Why does this sound so weird?
“I’ve wanted to marry Jo since the day I met him if I’m honest.”
She added: “But I feel really sad about losing my surname. Is that silly?
“It’s my mum and dads name. It’s me. It’s who I am. Did anyone else feel like this?”
