Ryan Dorsey, Naya Rivera’s ex-husband and father of her son Josey, just spent his first Christmas without the late Glee star and coped remarkably well. As Deadline reported at the time, Rivera’s former colleagues and loved ones rallied around to celebrate the holiday season — reportedly her favorite time of year — on her behalf with a fundraiser held in the actress’s name in support of one of Rivera’s favorite charities.
The mother of one drowned in July 2020. Dorsey took over primary care of Josey, with Rivera’s sister moving in with them to help with the transition. Clearly it’s been a difficult time for their little family, and will continue to be. On what would have been the Glee star’s 34th birthday, Dorsey took the opportunity once again to pay tribute to his dearly departed ex, and mother to his son, with a touching Instagram post in her honor.
Ryan Dorsey still can't believe the Glee star is gone
Dorsey once again took to Instagram to share a sweet black and white photo of him, Rivera and Josey, admitting, “Just as surreal as it is real that you’re gone. If that makes sense, but none of this still makes any sense…” His caption continued, “34..I could just hear you saying ‘Ah, I’m old AF now!’ Ha…Rest easy old lady…” The actor was also spotted visiting Rivera’s grave to mark the day, weeping openly, as reported by Page Six. Followers flocked to the comments to share their support, describing Dorsey as an “amazing father,” sending love and assuring him that Rivera “must be proud of you.”
Heather Morris, who appeared on Glee alongside Rivera, wrote simply, “Love you both so much.” She also shared her own birthday tribute featuring another black and white shot of the two ladies in happier times. “Happy Birthday my angel. I can’t write a sappy monologue because it’s just too hard…but I love you and I can’t describe how much I miss you,” she gushed alongside it. Elsewhere, fellow Glee alum Chris Colfer also paid tribute to the star, as did co-star Kevin McHale. Evidently Rivera’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her most.
