Amanda Owen will star in Channel 5’s Live: Winter on the Farm tonight as she tries out wild water swimming. During an interview with Lorraine Kelly on her ITV show, the Our Yorkshire Farm favourite set tongues wagging on Twitter as people shared their thoughts on going for a dip in chilly conditions.
On the show, Lorraine began: “There is something magical about wild water swimming.”
“Absolutely,” Amanda replied. “It’s about surroundings, it’s invigorating, it feels like it livens up the senses, it’s also sort of testing your own willpower, isn’t it?”
“Yes your endurance and that’s a good thing,” the ITV host confirmed.
She continued: “How was it though being on this programme on your own without the rest of the family? There you are – you’ve got a bit of me time!”
Amanda then went on to confirm that wild water swimming provided her with a sense of calm.
She said: “It was certainly unusual but there you go! That I suppose is what wild water swimming is about.
“It is about mindfulness, it is about taking a moment. I guess the thing is it’s about, sort of, calm.”
She went on to poke fun at the term “wild water swimming”, suggesting that it should just be referred to as plain “swimming”.
“We go wild water swimming, because of course it’s been rebranded – it is just swimming at the end of the day!” she said.
“You have no other option in Yorkshire other than to do cold water swimming because it is always cold.
“Usually it’s me and the children in the river or in the waterfalls, it’s all we’ve ever known.”
“It’s become fashionable,” Amanda added and Lorraine quipped: “You’ve been doing it for years and years.”
