Martine McCutcheon opened up on her health struggles as she enjoyed a holiday with family.
The actress, 47, headed to Mallorca with husband Jack McManus and son Rafferty where she shared her experience of struggling with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome while on holiday.
Martine was diagnosed with the illness in 2011 and is often open with fans on how the condition has an effect on her life.
In a new video, Martine is seen soaking up the sun on holiday in a polka dot dress, flip flops and shades as she lounges in a swing.
In another frame from the video, she can be seen cuddling son Rafferty, 8, as the family enjoy a day at the beach together.
However, in the video’s caption Martine shared how going on holiday with the condition was “tough” after she suffered from a flare-up of symptoms.
She wrote: “Mallorca life. Love it. Had a big flare up of my CFS lately and the travel was tough but waking up in the sunshine, feeling the hot heat soothe your aches and pains along with a warm gentle warm breeze is just heaven! Are you guys going anywhere this summer? Sending you all lots of love!”
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) – also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) – is a long-term condition that can cause a range of symptoms including extreme tiredness, muscle and joint pain, headaches and flu-like symptoms, according to the NHS.
In the comments, many fans shared how Martine being open about the condition has helped other fans who are facing similar issues.
One person wrote: “I love how you talk about ME/CFS on your page. It really does help with awareness so Thank you so much for that. Also, enjoy your holiday”.
Another person added: “I’m so glad you talk about CFS I have it too and it’s lovely to hear from someone in the public eye say they have it and I’m so glad you got to enjoy the rest of your holiday”.
Meanwhile, a third person added: “I have CFS have had it since I was 8 I’m now 35. Most days I’m fine but other days I cant move and need days in bed. You are an inspiration to me. How honest you are and how real you make the condition. I feel listened to. Hope the sunshine helps x.”
The star previously opened up on her experience of the perimenopause back in March, telling fans she was working on getting her confidence back after struggling with anxiety.
"Peri menopause symptoms… Such Fun!" she penned. "I have the hot flushes, the insomnia, the brain fog and fatigue … The list goes on doesn’t it?! And to be honest, having lived with M.E/CFS and fibro[myalgia] since my 20s, those symptoms seem to be something I can cope with… (touch wood!)".
Speaking about her anxiety, the actress continued: "However, what I’ve personally not heard mentioned as much, is the crippling anxiety you can get with the peri menopause.
"A kind of irrational anxiety that makes no sense whatsoever! You feel like you’ve lost your own damn mind! Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t seem to hear about this side of it as much".
Martine said she wanted to share her experience incase any fans were feeling the same or "scared or worried", and went on to admit she's not been feeling confident recently.
"I’m pleased to report after going through a phase of not even feeling confident enough to drive (That’s SO not me!) that I’m now feeling much better and I’m working my way back to my own 'normality'," she explained.
