We are used to seeing a bubbly and outgoing Marnie Simpson on our TV screens, but during lockdown, her chronic bladder condition got so bad, it began to affect her mentally.

The former Geordie Shore star, who recently revealed how she got into shape after giving birth, was diagnosed with chronic UTI in 2016 but was able to keep her symptoms under control with bladder medication.

However, once she gave birth to son Rox, the symptoms flared back up and left her bed bound and in agony.

In a chat with OK! online, Marnie, 28, said her health issues got really bad during lockdown and she wasn't able to seek medical help because the doctors were closed.

"I was going through really bad health issues and no doctors were open, I was just left to rot and it was really bad," she explained.

As a result, Marnie's mental health got affected, making it an even more difficult situation for her.

She said: "I got into a really dark, depressed place and it was really horrible."

Despite struggling with her health, the reality star ended up getting engaged earlier this year after boyfriend Casey Johnson got down on one knee and proposed.

The mum-of-one said the big moment gave her something to look forward to with the wedding and she was able to take her mind off her illness.

When asked about the proposal, Marnie said: "It was really nice you know, after everything I'd been through, it took my mind off it and it gave me something to look forward to."

The couple, who have been together since 2017 after meeting on MTV dating show Single AF, took to Instagram to reveal the exciting news.

Announcing their engagement in August, Marnie shared a picture of herself and Casey, with a massive sparkling ring on her finger.

She wrote: "And just like that I'm now a fiance and I'm marrying the man of my dreams, how did I get so lucky."

Marnie told OK! online she was more than happy with her ring and is grateful Casey didn't go too overboard.

"The ring is absolutely perfect, I've always said I wouldn't be happy if he ever spent that type of money on a ring, you can use that type of money for so many other things that are more important, it was the right size, not too much," she explained.
