Love Island’s Maya Jama divides viewers with ‘Quality Street’ dress

Maya Jama’s sizzling sex appeal wasn’t damaged by her divisive dress, according to fans

The consensus among many was that, although Maya Jama was undoubtedly pretty in purple, the outfit still drew comparisons to a sweet wrapper from a Quality Street confectionery box.

Maya Jama’s dress was mocked relentlessly by Twitter viewers as she presented the Love Island finale on Monday evening.

The bubbly presenter has boasted a wardrobe estimated at £20,000 over the course of the series, with some edgy outfits earning admiration from viewers.

However, her final dress was deemed a disappointment, with some fans exclaiming that the ruched purple dress left her looking like a Quality Street wrapper.

That said, the 28-year-old, who has Swedish and Somalian ancestry, still looked sensational to many devotees – no matter what she wore.

“Not Maya Jama dressing like a red cabbage and still looking unreal!” exclaimed one member of the Twitterverse, while another echoed: “Only Maya can dress as a cabbage and still pull it off.”

Maya Jama’s presenting skills were called into question

One Twitter fan demonstrated an “unpopular opinion” – that Maya Jama, who took over from Laura Whitmore, hadn’t been the best Love Island host. However, it was the dress that the most attention was focused on, with some fans saying it looked “ghastly”, “hideous” and like a “scrunched up sheet of wrapping paper”.

Maya Jama’s devotees declared they didn’t care what she wore

One supportive fan exclaimed: “Maya would still look 10/10 even if she was wearing an outfit made of dog s***!”

Maya Jama’s previous outfits have been more popular

One particular favourite for fans during this season’s Love Island series has been her sea-themed dress. Getting into the theme of a paradise holiday destination, she donned a dress the colour of sand, which featured anchors, seashells, crabs and even flamingos, as if to suggest she was on a beach in Aruba. Trimmed at the bottom with pink ostrich feathers, it was one of her most popular outfits of the series, despite coming in at an eye-watering £1,150.

Maya Jama was no stranger to bright colours this series

Another Love Island outfit that received rave reviews was her bright orange Garden of Eden-themed dress, which came with a decorative rose on one shoulder. By the brand Fanci Club, which is also favoured by supermodel Gigi Hadid, and Justin Bieber’s model wife Hailey, it costs buyers £290.

Not all of Maya Jama’s outfits were from new collections

Maya Jama also dazzled in a vintage dress dating all the way back to Dolce & Gabbana’s 2003 collection – and the all-black lacey corset-style number was a hit with viewers. Throughout the series, her outfits and fun attitude have attracted almost as much attention as the contestants over the weeks.
