Joe Biden speaks on stage with running mate Kamala Harris standing behind him on Thursday afternoon (November 5) at The Queen theater in Wilmington, Del.
The Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President of the United States spoke to the American people after attending a briefing on COVID-19 and the economy.
At the time of this posting, CNN reports that Biden has won 253 electoral votes so far while Donald Trump has just 213 electoral votes so far. 72 electoral votes remain in play and it looks like Biden has the most clear shot at reaching that 270 threshold to win the election.
“Democracy is sometimes messy, so sometimes it requires a little patience,” Biden said during his very brief press conference. “But that patience has been rewarded now for more than 240 years with a system of governance that has been the envy of the world.”
Biden says that he and his campaign “feel very good about where things stand. And we have no doubt that when the count is finished, Senator Harris and I will be the winners.”
“So, I ask people to stay calm. The process is working. The count is being completed,” he said.
Trump has not made an appearance since late Tuesday night, but he’s expected to speak today.
