Gemma Atkinson nearly attacks beau Gorka Marquez with baseball bat as surprise goes wrong

Gemma Atkinson – the actress and Strictly Come Dancing star – found herself brandishing a baseball bat in the middle of the night after hearing someone downstairs. The ex Hollyoaks favourite was woken up by her beloved dogs, after they heard a commotion at the home.

However, despite the 35-year-old “absolutely c**pping” herself, it all turned out to be a big surprise by her boyfriend Gorka Marquez.

The Spanish dancer, 29, had spoken to the mother-of-one just hours before from the Strictly 2019 grand final.

He wasn’t supposed to be back with his partner and daughter until much later the next day, but instead drove in the early hours to be back with them sooner.

Gemma has since recalled exactly what had gone down in a video shared with her 1.3 million followers.

“Last night I said good night to Gorka about 9 o’clock, put Mia to bed, these were in bed with me,” she started, pointing down at her pet pooches. “Everything was fine, went to sleep.”

But she then continued: “About half 2 I got woken up by Ollie growling, but it was proper angry growling, showing his teeth. Stood at the door going…

“So I thought, that’s weird. Next minute Norman starts barking and I hear banging downstairs. Obviously I absolutely c**p myself and think, oh my god, there’s someone in the house.”

The television star went on: “Last thing I want to do is fight someone at two in the morning, with three kids here. But I’ve got no choice. I grab my baseball bat and I think of Kevin McCallister.

Quoting the lead character in movie Home Alone, Gemma said: “I’m thinking, this is my house and I have to defend it.

“So I started to come downstairs, let him go first, and his growls and barks turned into a… all chuffed.”

She then added, setting the record straight: “I’m thinking, what’s he doing? Next minute I hear, ‘Hello baby, it’s me’.

“He [Gorka] only went and surprised me, didn’t he? He wasn’t meant to come home until 4 o’clock this afternoon. He came home at half two in the morning – bless him!”

Thankfully Gemma seemed visibly chuffed with his decision, despite her worries, as she spoke while exercising in her home gym.

Wearing her blonde tresses tied up in a knot, she was dressed casually in a green hoodie and black trousers.

Just hours before, she uploaded a shot of Gorka and Mia, who they welcomed into the world in the summer.

“We get papa back tomorrow for a full two months,” she captioned, to which he replied: “Can’t wait!”
