Former EastEnders star Katie Jarvis is now 'working at B&M Bargains

Former EastEnders star Katie Jarvis is pictured on a cigarette break from her job as a security guard at B&M Bargains… six months after mysteriously leaving the BBC soap

She mysteriously disappeared from Albert Square in February and was said to have been axed two months later.

And now Katie Jarvis has been spotted in a new role as a B&M security guard in Romford, East London on Sunday.

The former EastEnders star, 28, was seen sporting a red padded jacket outside the discount store as she puffed on a cigarette during her break.

Katie wrapped up against the Autumn chill in her cosy outerwear, which she wore over her security guard uniform consisting of a black jumper and black skinny jeans.

The former TV star added a black pair of trainers and covered her raven tresses with a black sports cap.

Katie appeared somewhat downcast as she sipped on a coffee and busied herself on her phone while she took a breather from the weekend crowds at the store.

She slung a black drawstring sports bag over her shoulder before making her way back inside the building to continue her day.

Katie was at the centre of a dramatic story line last Christmas but suddenly left the show after it ended.

The actress had played loudmouth Hayley Slater, who got caught up in an affair with her cousin Kat’s husband Alfie Moon, from the beginning of 2018.

The mother-of-two has since been spotted outside a B&M Bargains where she reportedly told the Daily Star Sunday she was working to support her children.

She said: ‘I’ve taken a step back from acting. I’ve got a job and I’m looking after my kids.’

Last summer the soap revealed Alfie Moon, played by Shane Richie, 55, had an affair with Hayley Slater while they lived in Spain with Kat, played by Jessie Wallace, 48, and their children.

Far from Walford: The soap star swapped Albert Square for B&M after her exit from the BBC show

Hayley became pregnant and decided to keep the baby, giving birth to daughter Cherry late last year.

And during a dramatic Christmas storyline their betrayal was exposed.

Katie’s character was last seen on screen in February when Stacey Fowler, played by Lacey Turner, went to hospital to collect her after treatment for her mental health.

A soap source told the Daily Star Sunday: ‘A lot of people have been wondering where Hayley is after she left so suddenly but the mystery has been solved, she’s in Romford working at B&M.

‘There was so much speculation about her departure, but there was no reason to keep the character in Albert Square once the storyline ended and Alfie had gone.’

MailOnline has contacted both Katie and EastEnders for comment.

It comes after the former soap star claimed she was ‘glassed by a drunken Irish man’ while on a night out in Romford, London, in March.

Work: The mother-of-two works at B&M Bargains where she reportedly told the Daily Star Sunday she was working to support her children (pictured in character)

She tweeted her thanks to the police service for ‘looking after’ her.

She said: ‘Big thank you to the Met police tonight and ambulance service for looking after me after I was glassed by a drunken Irish man for f*** all.’ However, she later deleted the tweet after fans spotted it and enquired after her well-being.

She later posted: ‘Thanks lovely lot I’m good as gold.’ She then thanked fans and sent out a tweet to ‘put minds at rest’.

She said: ‘Ok to put people’s minds, and questions to rest. I am absolutely fine thank you so much for all your concern and checking in on me but i’m a soldier and been through a hell of alot worse.

All okay: Katie Jarvis sent a message to fans to reassure them that she was OK after the alleged ‘glassing’ incident

‘Now you can start focusing your concerns on some real news.

‘Love you all xx’

Katie found fame in Hollywood before winning a part in the BBC soap. Her breakthrough film was 2009’s Fish Tank.
