He is best known for playing EastEnders ‘ard man Phil Mitchell, but actor Steve McFadden has displayed his kind, caring, environmentally caring side as he cycled to work.
The 59-year-old soap star is currently starring in a production of Dick Whittington in Southampton – where he is playing the villain, King Rat.
Making his way to the penultimate performance on Saturday, onlookers may have been surprised to see the telly man looking sprightly on his beloved fold up bike.
Steve was wrapped up warm as he cycled through the seaside city in Hampshire, wearing a thick coat, gloves, and a warm wolly hat – although health and safety fans will note he was not wearing any reflective gear or a proper cycle helmet.
Looking a little red in the face, the TV star appeared to be working up a sweat as he peddled hard on the small bicycle.
Steve customised his bike – which lis made by popular commuter bike company Brompton – with a convenient strap on bag at the front, and had added a shopping basket to the back.
He also carried a bag of his own as he hastily made his way to his performance.
Steve has surprised some fans with his performance in the camp Christmas panto – which ends tonight.
One EastEnders fan who went along to see him in action (alongside former X Factor star Joe McElderry and classic comedian Bobby Davro) left an interesting review on Twitter.
“I’d like to share my experience with seeing Steve McFadden aka Phil Mitchell live in the flesh,” the fan began.
“He was a lot shorter than I expected and not very intimidating considering he was playing the role of a ‘king rat’ but overall was a interesting experience,” they added.
