EastEnders star Samantha Womack, 49, reveals she’s recovering from breast cancer surgery

Samantha Womack is back home after confirming she's had breast cancer surgery and is now being looked after by her Coronation Street actor boyfriend, Oliver Farnworth, 40.

The actress has undergone an operation, just days after announcing her diagnosis and taking to Instagram on Thursday (August 18), Samantha, 49, shared a photo of her delicious healthy dinner – a bowl of homemade soup – and wrote: "Recuperating after breast cancer op.

"My love makes me turmeric and ginger in the morning and homemade butternut squash soup in the evening……. feeling loved and grateful."

The post lead to an outpouring of love and support from friends and followers. EastEnders co-star Tamzin Outhwaite wrote: "Sending lots of love and positive energy."

And Sam's close friend Denise Van Outen penned: "Sending you massive love," with Natalie Appleton, a singer with the 90's girlband All Saints, added some black hearts and paw prints to the comments.

Following the sad news of the death of Olivia Newton John earlier this month from the same illness, Samantha shared the devastating news that she's also facing breast cancer as she penned a tribute to the Grease star.

The former EastEnders actress, who starred as Ronnie Mitchell on the soap, took to Twitter to share the news alongside of photograph of herself next to Olivia.

She wrote: "This was the most magical of evenings. Olivia and Chloe had come to see Grease in London and we had dinner together afterwards. I was so excited and in awe, she was my childhood. I now start my own battle with this disease and am left feeling deeply moved."

Samantha revealed she was dating Oliver Farnworth in 2021, after splitting from her ex-husband Mark Womack in 2020.

The actress is reported to have grown close to Oliver, who played Andy Carver on the cobbles, after the pair appeared onstage together in the 2019 adaption of The Girl On The Train.

Samantha shares son Benjamin, 20, and 16 year old Lily with her ex and was also a step-mum to Mark’s son Michael, 26, from a previous relationship.

In an exclusive interview with OK! at the time of her split from Mark, Sam explained how she and Mark decided to part ways two years before going public about their separation saying: “Mark and I have always been great friends and have raised a family for 19 years.

“But we both realised about three or four years ago that we wanted different things from the next chapter of our lives and we actually made the decision to end our marriage two years ago."

She continued: “I’m a bit more out there and love camping and the idea of living off grid. Mark is quieter than me and just wanted a quiet life.

“We’re both actors and tour a lot so we spent a lot of time away from each other. We suddenly realised that when we came back together to spend time with the family, we wanted to do different things."

Samantha concluded: “I think for a long time we felt guilty about this and just didn’t communicate. And then about two years ago, I brought up how different we’d both become and Mark said it was something we really needed to think about and consider.”
