BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker’s time on Football Focus is almost at an end after 12 years on the show. Today, it was announced Alex Scott, 36, will be taking over his long-term role as the new host of the BBC show. On air today, he was joined by Alex and regular host Dion Dublin.
During the show, Alex turned to Dan and thanked him for his support over the years, which left him emotional.
Ahead of the show ending, the presenter showed viewers a picture of Alex on the board as he announced her new role.
He then said: “One thing we need to sort out before we finish Football Focus today is, you might’ve heard if you follow this programme, that this is my last season.
“I’ve done 12 years on this show, I’ve loved working with pundits and so many people behind-the-scenes who put this together.
“But, one thing we haven’t done yet, is announce who is going to be the new host of Football Focus.”
As an image of Alex popped up on the screen, he joked it was the “worst kept secret” in TV.
“Seeing that, it really does make it feel real,” the former Arsenal player replied.
She then turned to Dan to thank him for his continuous support over the years.
Alex said: “You knew from five years ago the position I wanted to be in and you helped push me out of my comfort zone.
“And you’re always there as support for me,” she added while also thanking Dion by her side.
“The person you are as a human being is everything,” she went on to say of Dan. “I don’t think it gets reflected enough on programmes like this.”
Dan shared the clip from Match of the Day’s Twitter account, in view of his 710,000 followers.
