Corrie’s Faye Brookes shares mum’s bowel cancer diagnosis as she completes final chemotherapy

Former Coronation Street actress Faye Brookes has opened up about her mum’s battle with bowel cancer in a heartfelt post celebrating the completion of her final chemotherapy session.

The 34 year old, who is best known for playing Kate Connor in the popular ITV soap, shared a sweet photo on Tuesday evening along with a video as her mum Inger Barber was finally able to ring the iconic bell to mark the end of her gruelling chemotherapy treatment.

Inger was first diagnosed with bowel cancer back in October 2021 after she was hospitalised for being unwell, with doctors conducting a serious of blood tests, scans and exams to finally reveal the devastating news.

However, unwilling to be beaten by the disease, Inger began treatment for the illness – with her final round chemo being successfully completed on Tuesday May 10th.

Marking the occasion, Faye couldn’t be prouder, with an accompanying instagram caption reading: “I can’t believe I’m actually sharing this with you all but it only seems right to celebrate this unbelievable moment today!

“Our Viking Warrior, Our Guardian Angel, Our Absolute Rockstar of a Mum…. Inger Barber. I love you. 10/05/22 is a day we’ll never forget..”

Alongside the news, Faye also shared a little more detail about the battle, when she added: “It was an earth shattering moment for all of us. I cannot begin to tell you how much I admire this lady, I am everything I am today because of her,I can’t imagine my life without you mama. Inger Barber is the glue that holds our family together.”

“We of course feared the worse …But Mum being Mum – She was determined to fight & she did!!!”


“I decided to keep this chapter of our lives private not just for my Mother’s sake but for ours too,We didn’t know what to prepare ourselves for…But today was the day she rang the bell!"

The star also went on to acknowledge that this wasn’t the end of the journey and that there was still more progress that needed to be made as Inger continues to get well, but it was still definitely a day for celebration as the family marked the treatment milestone.

“We know it’s not the end of our Mama’s journey @ingerbarber is still very much continuing to get herself better…But today was the day she had Chemotherapy for the last time!” concluded Faye, before calling upon anyone reading the post to remember what Is really important in their lives.

Ending the post Faye said: “So if you can take a second whilst you’re reading this to remember what is truly important?Count your blessings. Know that you are loved and whatever life throws your way, you can and you will fight!”
