Ben Affleck isn’t afraid to get candid about his struggles with substance abuse.
“It doesn’t really bother me to talk about alcoholism and being an alcoholic. It’s part of my life. It’s something that I deal with. It doesn’t have to sort of subsume my whole identity and be everything, but it is something that you know you have to work at,” the actor, 46, said Monday on the “Today” show, where he promoted his new film “Triple Frontier” with Charlie Hunnam.
Affleck, who thanked his fans in October following a stint in a 40-day treatment program, later elaborated on the decision to be transparent about his troubles.
“I feel like I had a problem and I really want to address it, and I take some pride in that … bits about yourself, your life, your family, and you know people — we encounter these kinds of hurdles and we have to deal with them,” said Affleck, who shares three children with ex Jennifer Garner.
Though Affleck has taken steps to improve his well-being, he also attempted to try an extreme diet plan, courtesy of Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.
“I just did the A-Rod 10-day challenge … it was a little bit tough, but I did it … it’s awful for the first couple of days because I am definitely somebody who likes bread and sugar … it’s terrible, you get through it and you’re like, ‘I feel pretty good.’ Of course, by the end of 10 days, I had three bagels,” Affleck shared.
Lopez and her boyfriend famously dropped carbs and sugar earlier this year, only to celebrate their accomplishment with a massive feast.
