Bella Hadid’s battle with Lyme disease as she pleads with fans to stop telling her she looks sick

Supermodel Bella Hadid has shared a recent update regarding her ongoing battle with Lyme disease, shedding light on the challenges she continues to face in her health journey.

Now 26 years old, Bella was diagnosed with Lyme disease back in 2013. Over the years, she has been vocal about her struggles, using her platform to raise awareness about this often misunderstood illness.

On Tuesday 6th August Bella posted a TikTok video of herself and her dog beans taking a walk in between hospital treatments. She captioned the clip: ”Me n miss beans taking our mental health walk in between treatments (i know i look sick u dont have to tell me twice ok!! And no i wasnt in rehab and no i dont do drugs so can we all drop it now that ive filled you in love you.”

Lyme disease, commonly transmitted through tick bites, can result in a range of symptoms including fatigue, pain, and cognitive difficulties.

On August 6, Bella took to Instagram to share a heartfelt post, emphasising her determination to improve her health and not give up. Expressing gratitude for her mother Yolanda Hadid's unwavering support, who herself has dealt with Lyme disease since around 2012, Bella acknowledged the toll the illness has taken on her well-being. The model reflected on the challenge of dealing with health struggles while trying to maintain a strong image for herself, her family, and her supporters.

Amidst her struggles, Bella reassured her fans that she is okay and encouraged them not to worry about her. She expressed that her ongoing treatment journey has played a significant role in shaping her into the person she is today.

Bella's Instagram post featured photographs of medical records dating back to 2013, revealing her symptoms including extreme exhaustion, muscle and joint aches, and chest pain. The images also showcased her receiving IV antibiotics, a common treatment for Lyme disease. She considered these visuals as "positive," representing the enlightening experience that has shaped her life.

Bella expressed gratitude to her team, agents, doctors, and nurses for their unwavering support throughout her health journey. She assured her fans that she will return to the runway when she's ready, expressing her love and longing for her supporters.

Her sister, Gigi Hadid, 28, added her voice to the comments section, conveying pride and support for her sister’s journey. Gigi explained her sister’s recent health-related absence from the runway on a recent Instagram Story.

“Just wanna touch on this post from last week,” she said, referring to a photo she had previously shared with her younger sister and the caption: “Can’t wait 4 the comebaccckkkkkk.”

Gigi continued: “Bella just finished a long and intense treatment for Lyme disease. Didn’t want some to take my post as a promise she’ll be back for shows this next season…).”

She concluded, “I’m so proud of her and excited for her comeback whenever she feels ready x.”

Lyme disease has not only affected Bella and her mother Yolanda, but also her younger brother Anwar, who was diagnosed in 2013. Yolanda wrote in a blog post on : “The children and I lived on a horse ranch in Santa Barbara for 10 years and spent the majority of our time outside in nature.”

Although Bella and Yolanda both say they’ve had chronic illness caused by Lyme, the diagnosis has attracted some controversy.

The NHS website acknowledges that some patients do appear to suffer prolonged symptoms after contracting Lyme disease, but explains there’s no consensus on the cause of this and no clinical definition of Chronic Lyme disease.
