During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, a newly platinum-blonde Hilary Duff confirmed rumors that “conversations are happening” for a new Lizzie McGuire revival. Hilary noted, however, that nothing is yet finalized.
But talks have apparently advanced to the point where writers are already discussing details about where a now adult Lizzie would be in her life, i.e. what city she would live in and whether or not she would already be a mother.
About the character of Lizzie, Hillary said “I love her so much.” “She was so important to girls at an important time in their lives,” she continued, “and if she could be important to them again at this age, I think that would be amazing.”
Lizzie McGuire was one of the first pre-teen / teen programming hits for the Disney Channel when it originally aired in January 2001. The series ran for 65 episodes until its fourth season ended in 2004. A successful movie was produced based on the series in 2003.
When the fourth season ended, Disney is thought to have been planning a primetime sequel series for the show following the main characters through high school. But discussions around that series are rumored to have broken down when Disney and Hilary could not agree to contract terms.
