If you want to create an ‘Espresso make-up’ look, which has been trending on social media this summer, with looks using rich deep browns and golden caramel drizzle shades, why not start with the real thing?
There are lots of ways to use real coffee in your make-up and skincare routine, according to experts at independent coffee roasters Little Fin Coffee Roastery.
If you’re in need of inspiration then look no further – here are some interesting ways to incorporate coffee into your beauty regime.
Ran out of eyebrow tint? Coffee to the rescue
Coffee is a great way to tint your eyebrows if you’ve run out of your favourite product.
Mix equal parts cocoa powder and coffee grounds – use fresh grounds, rather than used for the best tint.
Add a little coconut oil to make a paste, and use a lfew drops of honey to help the tint stick to your brow.
Apply with a spoolie brush and leave on for 20 minutes, or longer for darker results, before removing with water.
Try it as a lip scrub for luscious lips
While a coffee scrub can be too harsh for your face, it’s great as a natural lip scrub.
Mix some fresh coffee grounds with coconut oil, and gently scrub your lips in a circular motion before removing the scrub and applying a hydration lip balm.
You can also add a few drops of peppermint oil or extract which will help to plump and soothe your lips.
Keep under eye bags at bay with some caffeine
Caffeine has long been used in undereye products to help reduce puffiness and dark circles.
You can make your own coffee eye mask by blending fine coffee grounds with a few drops of almond oil and aloe vera gel to make a paste – blending them will make them even more fine and less abrasive on delicate under-eye skin.
Place the mixture in the fridge for half an hour before applying a generous amount and leave on for ten minutes before gently washing away.
Want a natural exfoliator? Use coffee
Making a coffee body scrub is a natural way to exfoliate and remove dead skin, and it’s also a great way to use old grounds that would normally be thrown away.
Dry out some used coarse coffee grounds and mix them with coconut oil to help with moisturisation – you can also add in some sugar to make the exfoliation a little more gentle.
If you want to take it to the next level, add some rolled oats, which are good for reducing inflammation and redness.
Coffee shampoo for healthy hair
Caffeine has been scientifically proven to stimulate hair follicles into producing healthy hair.
It also penetrates the scalp, giving your hair increased shine, condition, and body. Add some grounds to your normal shampoo, and it will help gently exfoliate dead skin and product build-up from your scalp.
Give your hair a second shampoo and rinse without the coffee to make sure there’s no residue – and remember that coffee can stain, so this one is best for brunettes.
Natural hair colour
Brunettes who want to freshen up their hair colour in a natural way can use some coffee for that too.
All you need to do is just brew a few cups of very strong coffee and leave to cool.
Then, pour the cooled coffee over clean, dry hair, wring it out, and cover it with a shower cap.
Leave the coffee to soak for 30 minutes to an hour before rinsing – leave it longer if you’d like a stronger colour – and follow it up with a conditioning mask.
