Jeremy Clarkson is attempting a “last roll of the dice” due to the financial woes that are plaguing his dreams of being a successful farmer.

The 63-year-old Clarkson’s Farm star revealed in excerpts obtained by Farmers Guide from his new book, Pigs Might Fly, that he can scarcely sleep at night over fears the figures won’t add up if he uses his farm solely to grow food.

“This morning, I decided to plant my game covers with mustard. It’s my last roll of the dice,” Jeremy wrote.

“My last chance to make something – anything – work – and if it doesn’t? I don’t even want to think about it.”

Mustard is popular for covering crops as it suppresses weed growth and is believed to help with pest control and maintaining healthy soil.

However, Jeremy is desperate to make this new technique work in a bid to balance the books, after admitting his outgoings are alarming.

“It would be easy for me to let the brambles and badgers take over my farmland and to sit back and watch the deer and squirrels eat all the trees in my woods,” he wrote.

“And yes, it would be simple to open this thorny place to hippies and witches… but I do feel some responsibility to put food on your table.

“It hurts my knees and my outgoings this year are truly terrifying, even for me with four other income streams. So I can’t hand it back to nature and I daren’t move forwards.”

Jeremy has managed to successfully monetise his Amazon Prime TV show, Clarkson’s Farm, in which he details the adventures that take place on his Oxfordshire land – but profit margins are tough.

He even previously claimed that in the farm’s first year, he had made just £114 in profit.

He’s also had some disastrous moments, including crashing a Lamborghini tractor, believed to be worth at least £20,000, and landing in a ditch.

That experience, among others, has prompted TV sidekick Kaleb Cooper to brand his co-star a “f*****g idiot” and exclaim “I should be paid to look after you!” – only for Jeremy to joke that he already receives a wage for doing so.
