My Mum, Your Dad star Roger wasn\u2019t ready to try and find love again after the death of his wife, he has admitted.<\/p>\n
The 58-year-old appears in the new ITV dating show initially billed as \u2018middle-aged\u2019 Love Island, but has proved to be much more in the first episode which aired on Monday.<\/p>\n
Hosted by Davina McCall, the series sees adult children setting their parents up with each other, being able to see it all unfold from a secret room.<\/p>\n
One such contestant is Roger, 58, whose wife Joanne died just 18 months ago from melanoma, and who openly shared his grief and heartbreak on the dating show.<\/p>\n
He was put forward by daughter Jess, 28, and the pair both appeared on Tuesday\u2019s episode of Lorraine to discuss the series, which was filmed months ago but is only airing now.<\/p>\n
Asked by presenter Lorraine Kelly how he knew he was ready when he joined the show to begin dating again, he admitted outright: \u2018I knew I wasn\u2019t.\u2019<\/p>\n

He clarified that he \u2018loved\u2019 the experience and \u2018gets slightly better as it goes on,\u2019 but in the beginning found it \u2018difficult.\u2019<\/p>\n
However, \u2018it was something I couldn\u2019t pass up.\u2019<\/p>\n
Daughter Jess, who was secretly working behind the scenes on the show to help set him up along with the other grown-up children, said it was \u2018scary\u2019 to be able to watch her father going through the first steps of dating again.<\/p>\n
However as a self-confessed \u2018control freak,\u2019 she said it was \u2018excellent\u2019 to be able to play God with the relatonships unfolding within the country house.<\/p>\n

Despite not being ready for it, Roger went on to say he felt \u2018very lucky\u2019 that his first date on the show was with Caroline, who \u2018nursed me through it as I was very nervous.\u2019<\/p>\n
Introducing himself on the show, Roger said Joanne\u2019s death had taught him how \u2018life can be over in a split second.\u2019<\/p>\n
On a date with Caroline, he revealed he had not been on a first date in nearly 40 years, and had her in floods of tears as he explained his wife had breast cancer four years ago, but she recovered until she discovered a spot behind her ear while they were on holiday.<\/p>\n
Roger then shared how one night Joanne was incredibly tired and fell asleep on the sofa, and she didn\u2019t really wake up again.<\/p>\n
