In the coming weeks you’ll see dozens of lists predicting which destinations will attract visitors in 2019. Airbnb is just out with its predictions, but rather than basing them on the opinions of editors or PR reps, they’re determined by search activity and bookings on its site.
The accommodations site rated the destinations that have seen the greatest activity for searches, bookings and additions to the “wish lists” it lets users compile.
Based on those metrics, the destination with the biggest surge in interest is Kaikoura, New Zealand, with a 295 percent increase in bookings year over year. Second is Xiamen, China, up 282 percent. Other destinations in Airbnb’s rankings include some American classics – including an area in New York State celebrating the 50th anniversary of Woodstock – mixed with more exotic spots around the globe. See the complete list, along with comments from Airbnb about why these destinations are trending, in the slideshow above.
