Meghan Markle is currently believed to be on maternity leave as she prepares to welcome her child with Prince Harry some time in the next few weeks.
This may be the first child for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but there have been a number of royal babies born in recent years as sister-in-law Kate Middleton, 37, has three young children of her own.
With a new baby on the way, there are a number of traditions that need to be followed.
Although Meghan seems to have stuck to these so far during her pregnancy, Michael Serwa, the UK’s highest paid life coach, told Express.co.uk why she might not follow protocol for long.
Meghan Markle news: Why the Duchess might break royal baby traditions
The gender of a royal baby is usually something that is kept under wraps, and so far Meghan and Harry have been doing this as they leave the world guessing whether they will have a boy or girl.
Other baby traditions that are strictly followed include letting the Queen know first when the baby is born and choosing a traditional name that links to the ancestry of the Royal Family.
Kate Middleton and Prince William have stuck to this protocol during the birth of there three children, but Meghan and Harry are more likely to make their own rules.
“Meghan and Harry are the epitome of modern royalty – it appears to me that they are living their lives authentically on their terms and by their own personal truth,” Michael told Express.co.uk.
“This is something I encourage my clients to do to achieve happiness, so I applaud the couple for breaking some of the royal baby traditions and doing things their own way.”
Meghan has been known to break royal protocol on many different occasions, especially when it comes to her fashion choices.
Although the Royal Family are supposed to wear tights for official engagements, Meghan has often went bare-legged when completing her royal duty.
Prince Harry is reported to have joined her in breaking protocol, after they skipped out on the Boxing Day tradition of pheasant shooting due to Meghan’s personal beliefs on the sport.
Michael explained: “As a young couple of the millennial age Meghan and Harry are not alone in changing the way they think about ‘traditional’ family structures and protocol.
“The royal couple are putting their own ‘self- improvement’ as a life priority rather that what they are expected to do, and to this note I believe that we will see them doing increasingly more things that royals have never done before.”
Traditionally, a new royal baby is announced by an easel being placed outside Buckingham Palace and this is followed by a gun salute by royal troops and a union jack to fly above government buildings.
Being modern royals, Michael believes they might opt to do something different.
“Who knows, the royal baby may even be announced via Instagram!” Michael said.
“If that is what brings them true and pure happiness that is exactly what I’d recommend they do.”
They may also break the tradition of appearing outside the hospital almost immediately after the birth, as one fan urged Meghan not to.
As the birth of the baby gets closer, they might look to Kate Middleton for parenting advise.
Kate is said to stop her kids from having tantrums by talking to them in a “calm-ish, reasoned and understandable tone”.
