You know when Tim Gunn used to warn Project Runway contestants about making sure their looks don’t go too costumey? It always turned out to be pretty solid advice, and contestants who didn’t heed his warnings were usually sent home. I always imagined those losing designers slipped quietly away to careers in the circus or on the drag circuit. But judging from the runway at last night’s Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, some of them went on to have lucrative careers making costumes for remakes of popular movies.
It’s been over 10 years since The Hurt Locker won the Academy Award for Best Picture. That means it’s ripe for a remake. In this version, Mustard has the nerve wracking job of diffusing Mariah Carey’s Lush bath bombs. It’s a dangerous job, but Mustard’s just the man to do it. Look, he’s on the hair brush right now, getting dispatched to his next mission. They’ve found a Bom Perignon in Mimi’s toilet!
This gender-swapped Star Wars movie they’re making starring Olivia Wilde as C3PO-No She Better Don’t, Kaitlyn Dever as R2D2 (who moonlights as a Cloud City real estate agent), and Beanie Feldstein as Luka Skywalker, a prairie moisture farmer, is sure to both titillate, and enrage, the neckbeard fanboys of the world.
I had no idea they were doing a porn parody of Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, but if it stars Halsey in this dress, I’m all the way in. And no need for a punny title for this parody! Whoever designed this dress played it smart by using a tarp which is both practical for easy cleanup after water sports scenes, but is also a good example of how to win an unconventional materials challenge.
With all the recent interest in the music of Queen, it’s not surprising that Flash Gordon is getting the remake treatment. Interesting casting though with newlywed Sophie Turner as intergalactic meanie Ming The Merciless. This Bed Bath and Beyond hotel bedspread take on Ming’s signature style is interesting. But I’m going to have to see her in the full Fu Manchu mustache before making my final judgement. And not to get too SJW about this, but were there no Asian actors who could have taken this part? Was Scarlett Johansson not available?
