£3m worth of jewellery, destined to be worn by Rita Ora at Cannes Film Festival, has gone missing.
The costly diamonds are thought to have accidentally been left on a plane, which was transporting them to the annual film festival.
Rita’s assistant was not in charge of transporting the jewellery, despite conflicting reports.
The gems were transported on a flight from London Luton to Nice airport.
The Telegraph reported the person who was overseeing the safe transit of the jewellery, left the plane without her coat and cabin baggage, which contained the pricey jewels.
According to police sources in France, the person transporting the jewellery realised they had left the precious cargo on the plane, but when they tried to retrieve it, the plane was already heading back on its return journey to the UK.
It hasn’t been confirmed which airline the jewels were flown on, but it was reported they managed to recover the suitcase and kept it safe until it arrived in the UK.
Police officers then reported to have collected the suitcase once it touched down at Heathrow Airport.
It has not yet been confirmed which jewellers in London the gems originated from.
Rita jetted to Cannes last week, and was spotted at Charles Finch’s filmmakers dinner with British Vogue editor Edward Enniful, and singer Liam Payne.
The hitmaker is now back in the UK, having flown in from Cannes on Saturday.
After her whistle-stop-tour of the swanky French city, the Kosovan-born British singer played Bournemouth and Cardiff this week as part of the European leg of her tour.
The pop star, who released her second album last year, wraps up the 24-date tour at the end of this month.
